Step away from your tools

At the start of the journey, there is a window of apprehension, excitement, and a flurry of ideas. Left unchecked, enthusiasm can turn into fragmented overwhelm.

Before getting carried away and rushing to 'make stuff', take a moment to step away, get outside, and absorb the task-at-hand. Re-read the brief. Create a plan.

  • Who is on your team, and what are they great at?
  • What tools are the team proficient in?
  • How can you use those tools to deliver the result?
  • Who are the stakeholders and are they involved?
  • How much time/runway do you have?
  • Do you have access to the problem environment?
  • What are the known barriers and variables?
  • How knowledgable is the team about the problem?
  • What does success look like for the team?
  • What does success look like for the users?
  • What does success look like for the product?
  • How do you measure and track success?
